What would your pep talk be about?

86589951 There's an interesting project brewing.  Phillipe De Ridder has invited bloggers to think about 2009 so far and share their views.  In his words…

Let’s all share our views on 2009 up until now. What is your advice to the world? Which projects have surprised/disappointed you so far (in your industry or in general)? Are people motivated enough to start new projects? Which solutions can innovation bring?

I'll be joining in on the fun.  I'd love your thoughts on the state of branding, marketing etc. in the year 2009.  What's your half-time report?

If you'd like to join the project, you can get more info on Phillipe's site.

I’m finding that smart business people are willing to at least listen to new ideas and new ways of doing things. This year has also confirmed that when things get tough, the tough don’t mope around and complain about economic conditions, the cost of government bailouts or how hard it is to make a buck. No, the tough as they say “Get Going”.

  2. Tom,

Do you think most businesses are “getting going” or are they getting stuck in the fear of the media hype?

  3. This is a question that is hard to answer. As a branding expert – business & personal. I believe it is going to be the best year ever… Whether or not it will really doesnt matter.

It is about attitude, perception and belief. I think those that believe the hype…WILL. Try changing your script. Change your thoughts and your focus and you increase your chances by 1000%.

A batter walked up to the plate 100 times and struck out every time and missed the ball completely every time. The coach looked at the player and asked if he had ever tried swinging at the ball while keeping his eyes open. It could really improve your chances…

Increase your reps, if you are used to doing 40 push ups a day, increase to 200 to get same results.

While people are looking at the sky to see if it is falling, change where you look. Look on the ground and uncover ever rock twice to find that opportunity.

Look where you want to be in 6 months and a year and put all your energy in being there.

Fake it until you make it – if you dont believe it will get better than try faking it and work hard at really believing it. Belief will spurn confidence.

Its not how you start, its how you finish the race that matters.

If you do what you have always done and expect to get different results, than look at new and unique ways to do things. Transform.

At the end of the day, you really have very little control. Be thankful for what is really important and have the best outlook and attitude. I believe life is 1% what happens and 99% how you CHOOSE to react.

  4. Chad,

Thanks for jumping in. So are you saying this year, 2009, will be the best year ever because you have specific reasons to believe that is so…or are you saying that you always approach every year with the attitude that it will be the best year ever?
