Are you where your customers are looking?

According to research from Webvisible and Nielsen:

63% of consumers and small business owners turn to the internet first for information about local companies 82% use search engines to do so

But…. only 44% of small businesses have a website
And…less than half spend less than 10% of their marketing budget online

So the question is….if you don't have a decent presence on the web and if you aren't doing what you can do to influence search engine placement — how many times a day are you being completely unnoticed?

What are you going to do about it?

    A subject so close to my heart I turned it into a second career through my 1 Plus 1 Makes 3 blog-site: teaching small business owners how to set up their own website using Typepad’s blog-platform.

    And with great success I must say – all report increased enquiries from their ‘blog-sites’ within 1 week. (Of course it then depends on how active they stay working on their web-presence, but even that I’ll drum into them: “if you want your website to work, you’ll have to work on your website”.)

    The almighty importance of search engines and the company website.
    You have to discover your leads on your website as potential custoemr look there first.
    Thus in order to reach to buyers early in their purchasing process use a webservice that reveals teh company names of the website visitors.
    Those companies are interested and you can cold call (or email)

    Hey Drew,

    Those are some very interesting stats. It’s crazy to me that so many businesses don’t even have a website.

    It doesn’t seem to make sense, since people use Google more than the phone book now. If you’re not online, and don’t show up on Google, then for some people you don’t exist!

    I wonder what the stats would be for Social Media sites like Facebook. It’s guess that it’d be in the top right below (or maybe above) search engines.

    You don’t have to be where your customers are you just have to be where they can find you. Google is all you need to know. You can use other sites to get found by your custmers on Google. Video marketing on sites like http://www.adwido.com is a great way to go about it.
