The best argument for overpaying your proofreader I've seen in awhile

First….pay attention to the subject matter of Omniture‘s offering.

Now look at the e-mail they sent out to solicit customers for the above webinar.  How sad and scary is that?

My client who shared this with me is actually NOT known by FirstName.  And the guy didn’t even sign this very important e-mail.  But not to worry — she can call him at…

Note to all of us.  For the love of God…have someone proof your work.

    Hi Drew

If that message was created in an autoresponse program it would have been very simple for the sender to test-send it to him.her self and note the mistakes.

I tend to do that most of the time with my AWeber lists, works a treat to get – most – of those little but very annoying errors out of it.

    Hi Drew,

This mistake is unforgivable and easily prevented as Karin H. points out.

The other important thing to remember is that people in differing departments have different skill sets. I can’t put together something out in manufacturing without instructions and I shouldn’t assume that just because I blog, twitter, and can make cool flash presentations that a person in sales can mail merge an email without instructions.

It’s not hard; just pre-fab some instructions and an explanation of what they are starting with and what they should finish with and how to test it like Karin H. suggested.

    Karin,

And when you consider the webinar they are advertising…you’d think they’d know they should proof it before sending it to their entire list.

These mistakes would have been pretty hard to miss.

    Dave,

No doubt. My guess is that they don’t have a defined process for sending these notices out. Otherwise, surely “proof the dang thing” would have been a step!

As an email marketer, this is your worst nightmare. That’s why you have a test send that goes to several people to check it. What a shame…

    Jonathan -

Agreed. Lots of money wasted. A reputation damaged. Way too expensive when an extra layer of proofing and checking could have prevented it all.
