How do you get someone to anxiously wait for your book's release?

Sure, J.K. Rowling, John Grisham and Seth Godin have it in the bag.  They release a book...and voila, the audience is there.

But for most authors, especially non-fiction authors, the road is a bit more rocky.  They usually don't have a ton of support from their publishers (if they aren't self-published), they're most likely still working a day job and odds are, they aren't loaded.

So how do they get our attention?  How do they convince us to jot their book's release date on our calendar?  Well, the irrepressible and irreverent Andy Nulman did it like this.

And yes, I put it on my calendar.  You?

Definitely worked on me. I'll at least keep an eye on it, plus I just subscribed to his blog.

Clever! More and more authors are doing brook trailers, posting them on blogs and You Tube. Andy's video is great because he's interesting, humorous and seems pretty personable. And definitely creative! Surely the book would be a good buy for all those reasons alone!

Thanks for this, Drew. And as for the comment about not being loaded, don't speak too fast...how'd ya think I mustered up bravado to do these things? Four more to come, all premiering on 800CEO-Read, but I am so grateful for you for posting it here. Means a lot to me. And I got to meet Brett and Cheryl, so that means only 9,998 more to go to convince 100,000 people to buy the thing.

Brett & Cheryl -- I think one of the reasons why Andy's video worked is because he wasn't just a talking head. His antics gave us a sense of the tone and tempo of the book.

And like you, it makes me want to read it as soon as possible.

Andy,

I'm looking forward to the next installment. Can't wait to read the book!

Drew

Funny stuff. Don't think I'll be patiently waiting for the release, though.

it makes me want to write a book just so I can use his creative techniques to sell it.
